Virginia Commonwealth University provost Dr. Beverly Warren paid a special visit to an Albemarle County teacher Friday.
Greer Elementary School kindergarten teacher Abigail Kayser is an African American Teaching Fellow who received tuition and support in exchange for two years of service to the county.
Dr. Warren is an expert in education for minorities. She came to see Kayser in action.
"Our classrooms are becoming more and more diverse over the years, our teaching workforce needs to become equally diverse," Dr. Warren said. "And we know in a pluralistic society that children are going to be able to thrive in that environment."
Dr. Warren will be the keynote speaker at the John Baker Legacy Dinner. The event is on October 5 and all proceeds will go to support the teaching fellows.
