A Staunton man originally charged with robbing a convenience store will avoid a long prison term.
Staunton police say 33-year-old Farrington Fitch demanded money from a clerk at the 7-Eleven store on North Coalter Street. Surveillance video helped lead to a quick arrest.
A Staunton judge in July convicted Fitch on a lesser charge of larceny. Thursday, the same judge suspended all but six months of his sentence.
