Scottsville Man Arrested on Corner for Assault on Police Officer

A Scottsville man faces charges for assaulting a law enforcement officer in Charlottesville.

Stephen Andrew Otis, 23, faces a felony charge and misdemeanors for resisting arrest and being drunk in public.

Police say he assaulted an officer while the officer was investigating a property damage complaint along University Avenue early Sunday morning.


Charlottesville Police Department released the following information:

 

Stephen Andrew Otis, a 23-year-old male, from Scottsville was arrested for assault on a law enforcement officer after throwing the officer to the ground on University Ave. at the corner. He was charged with felony assault and battery of a law enforcement officer. The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of University Avenue. The officer had been called to a business on the corner to investigate a property damaging complaint where Mr. Otis was involved. This officer was assigned to the foot patrol beat on the corner and responded. Our officer was transported to the UVA ER where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. In addition to the felony, Otis is also charged with the misdemeanors of resisting arrest and being drunk in public.
