UVA Welcomes Founding Fathers to Constitution Day Event

Posted: Updated:

Some of our Founding Fathers paid a special visit to the University of Virginia on Monday in honor of Constitution Day.

Monday is the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Actors portraying President James Madison and Chief Justice John Marshall discussed the Constitution at an event sponsored by UVA's Center for Politics. They highlighted the arguments over the Constitution and took questions from the audience.

Ken Stroupe with the UVA Center for Politics said, "It should cause us to feel better about politics today by understanding that it's not so different today than it was at the very beginning of our establishment as a nation."

Madison is considered the father of the Constitution. He led the drafting of the document and wrote the Bill of Rights.
