University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan is excited about a new addition to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) family.
She acknowledged the University of Notre Dame leaving the Big East conference to join the ACC at a recent UVA Board of Visitors meeting.
It's expected that the Fighting Irish will become a full member of the ACC by 2015 in all sports except hockey and football.
"I'm very pleased to have Notre Dame joining the ACC," said Sullivan. "I think Notre Dame brings to us the kind of school we're looking for. A school that wants to have excellence academically as well as to have excellence in athletics. That's a great fit for the ACC."
The Fighting Irish will maintain much of its football independence, but will play five games each season against the ACC.
