The Augusta County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide between two women on Sunday morning in Fishersville.
Deputies say 23-year-old Regina Claud shot and killed one of her roommates, 22-year-old Rasheda Alestock, before turning the gun on herself. They say the motive was domestic in nature.
Deputies responded to the Bolton Place home in the Teaverton Subdivision around 8:00 Sunday morning after receiving a phone call from a roommate in the residence. When they arrived on scene, they found Claud and Alestock dead.
According to deputies, the two women were not related and knew each other for about two years.
Authorities say five people, men and women, moved into the Fishersville home one month ago.
On Sunday, the close knit Teaverton neighborhood in Fishersville is in disbelief after hearing the Augusta County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide.
Neighbors who spoke to NBC29 on Sunday say they had never seen the victim or shooter because they just moved into the neighborhood. They say they were caught off guard by this tragic turn of events.
One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, "I was really shocked when I heard the news that something like that happened over here - I didn't believe it." He added, "This neighborhood is really quiet. We've been here for a year and it's hard to see cops over here, you never see cops over here."
Paul McCormick, an investigator with the Augusta County Sheriff's Office, said, "We're going to continue examining the evidence, submitting the evidence to a lab in Roanoke, and wait on the autopsies."
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office says they will have preliminary answers to this investigation after the autopsy is conducted on Monday.
