On Saturday, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS) gave people an up close look at what they do to save lives.
To kick off the department's annual fund drive, an open house was held at the CARS location on McIntire Road. The event included tours of the building and inside an ambulance fleet. Members of the rescue squad also suited up to demonstrate how they would remove a person trapped in a vehicle.
Michael Berg, the president of CARS, said, "This is our third open house where we invite the public to come visit. Usually, we go out to see the public, this time we're asking the public to come see us. We show them our new vehicles, some of our specialty equipment."
The rescue squad says its goal is to raise $400,000, which will help with their yearly operations.
