SOL Report Cards Released for VA School Districts

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday the final Standards of Learning (SOL) test results are in.  School districts across the commonwealth are getting a first look at their report cards.

The Virginia Department of Education just released the final data, including performance of student subgroups, for 2011-2012 SOL tests. The subgroups include African-Americans, Hispanics, and students with disabilities. Up until now, the state had just released overall SOL results, but not details about the performance of these subgroups.

The Virginia Department of Education says that the new, more difficult math SOL test caused scores to fall by eight to 25 points statewide. In all other subjects, scores improved slightly or stayed the same.

There is reaction to the results in Albemarle County.  "We're at or above the state averages like we have been historically in the subgroups," said "Billy" Haun, Albemarle County Public Schools assistant superintendent for student learning.  "There are a few subgroups where we are a little behind the state averages, but we are working on those and evaluating those and constantly improving on those."

Haun also says that graduation rates in Albemarle County are 9 percentage points above the national level.

The full report cards for Albemarle County, and all other schools and districts, are available here.
