Some people are turning the 9/11 anniversary into something positive, by rolling up their sleeves and giving the gift of life.
The Charlottesville Fire Department is hosting a blood drive Tuesday in conjunction with Virginia Blood Services. The mobile unit is on scene. Chief Charles Werner gave blood, and says it's a great way to give back to the community.
"Today what we want to do is focus on doing things that make our community stronger and this is an opportunity for people to give their blood and save lives of those in the community," Werner said. "Make our community stronger and show our nation's resilience."
The blood drive will continue at the Charlottesville fire headquarters at 203 Ridge Street until 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.
