The University of Virginia honor system uses a jury of students and a single sanction policy that expels any student caught lying, cheating, or stealing. It's a decades old system that's going under a microscope.
On Tuesday, UVA President Teresa Sullivan, faculty members, and students will gather to discuss how to improve the system. UVA Honor Committee Chair Stephen Nash says communication needs to be improved in light of Sullivan's ouster and reinstatement this summer.
He explained, "Since sort of April to now…there's been a lot of conversation about honor, integrity, and trust - what does it mean to be a community of trust?"
The honor committee is accepting discussion questions on its website. The event Tuesday is at 3:30 at Old Cabell Hall and is open to the public.
