The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is calling its "Dogs and Cats Around Town" statue raffle a big success. The fundraiser raised more than $8,000 for animals at the shelter.
The Virginia Shop and New Dominion Bookshop tied for selling the most in-store tickets, but online purchases helped make "Sirius" and "Grisham K9 Editor" the top two money raising statues.
Event organizer Cynthia Viejo said, "I'm sure it will continue to grow most definitely, and we do a lot of work here at the SPCA obviously in support of the animals, and hold to the no-kill mission that we have here. I will tell you under the stewardship and guidance under the amazing Susanne Kogut, it's a beautiful place."
The SPCA estimates 2,000 tickets were sold during the two-month raffle.
