Charlottesville Democrats hosted a community fish fry picnic at Tonsler Park Sunday afternoon.
Anne Holton, wife of former governor and U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, met with voters. Fifth District candidate John Douglass was there as well. When asked about the latest jobs report, both say the economy remains a topic of concern, but Americans are better off than they were four years ago.
"If you remember where we were four years ago, on the brink of a financial disaster, the auto industry about to collapse, two wars, all kinds of craziness going on. We have made such great progress in these four years," said Holton.
Douglass added, "This recovery would have gone a lot smoother, a lot faster, if we would have had the bipartisan support for the president's programs this country needs."
He says he remains open to a debate with Congressman Robert Hurt, but hasn't received a definite answer from the Hurt campaign.
