Backpacks will soon fill the lawn at the University of Virginia to bring attention to mental illness.
"Send Silence Packing" is a traveling display of 1,100 backpacks representing the 1,100 college students who commit suicide each year.
Active Minds at UVA is organizing the event and members hope the event creates a positive dialogue about mental health.
Meredith Was with Active Minds at UVA said, "We're trying to make a powerful statement, hopefully it will be a moving thing for people who are walking through and we want to raise awareness of the incidence and impact of student suicide."
Many of the backpacks have been donated in honor of loved ones who took their own lives. You can stop by and see the display Thursday, October 4.
