Police Investigate Fatal Accident on Garth Road

One person is dead and another hospitalized, after a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Garth Road in Albemarle County.  Police say speed was a factor.

Albemarle County police say the crash happened at 1:15 p.m. near the intersection with Midway Farm Road.  They say the BMW was traveling eastbound when it went off the road.

The male driver died at the scene, and the passenger was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. 

Albemarle County police are looking for someone in a red car that may have witnessed the crash.  Police describe the car as having sporty market rims, a small factory spoiler on the trunk of the car and is clean looking and well maintained.   They say it is possible there is damage around the front left fender. 

The road was closed between Ridge Road and Dunmore Road while police investigated.

The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on Garth Road.

A vehicle traveling eastbound on Garth Road ran off the road, striking a large stump and trees along the side of the road.  The driver of the car died on the scene.  A male passenger was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.

The call for the crash came in around 1:15pm.  The road remained closed for three hours while the Crash Reconstruction Team worked to investigate the crash and clear the scene.

Officers are looking for a vehicle which was possibly witness to or involved in the crash.  They are looking for a bright red 2008-2010 passenger car.  The car is described as having sporty market rims, a small factory spoiler on the trunk of the car and is clean looking and well maintained.    It is possible there is damage around the front left fender. 

The identification of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
