The search for a snake that was on the loose near Charlottesville's Seminole Square Shopping Center is over. The 7 foot Red Tail Boa was found Tuesday behind the old Boathouse Grill restaurant.
In July, Boathouse Grill employees spotted the snake strangling a possum near the restaurant. The employees described the snake as being about 9 feet long and as wide as a full paper towel roll. Members of the kitchen staff tried to kill it before it took the possum's life, but they were not successful.
The Central Virginia Reptile Rescue in Dillwyn is planning to care for the creature until someone is found to adopt it.
The snake will need medical attention because when it was originally spotted in July, a Boathouse Grill employee stabbed it.
