Culpeper County Sheriff's Office
Press Release
Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Monumental Mills Road on Sept. 1, 2012, at 5:35 p.m. for a domestic incident that resulted in a shot being fired.
Deputies believe four adults visited the residence in a vehicle on Saturday evening. Jonathan W. Welch, 21, of Rixeyville, reportedly approached the residence on foot with two other passengers: Christopher R. Marsh, 28, of Culpeper, and John R. Randall, 21, of White Post.
Welch, Marsh and Randall reportedly had a physical altercation with a 17 year-old male at the residence. Shortly thereafter, Welch, Marsh and Randall reportedly got back into the vehicle that Karen E. Fincham, 39, of Rixeyville, was driving.
A 15 year-old male at the scene allegedly used a .22 caliber long rifle to fire a single shot, striking the vehicle. The rifle and bullet were later recovered by deputies. None of the passengers in the vehicle were injured as a result of the shot.
The 17 year-old male sustained minor injuries in the physical altercation.
As a result of the incident, the 15 year-old male, of Rixeyville, is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempt to commit murder. He was transported to Blue Ridge Detention Center.
Welch is charged with malicious wounding by mob, two counts of destruction of property and trespassing.
Marsh and Randall are charged with one count each of malicious wounding by mob, destruction of property and trespassing. Fincham is charged with one count of trespassing.
Welch, Marsh and Randall are being held in the Culpeper County Jail on no bond. Fincham was released on a $2,500 secured bond.
Due to the domestic nature of this incident, and the involvement of a juvenile suspect and victim, Sheriff Scott Jenkins will not be releasing further details on this case.
NOTE: A photo of Christopher Marsh is not available for this incident.
