Schaub & Ferguson Have Their Jerseys Retired at UVA

The Virginia football held a ceremony during halftime of Saturday's win against Richmond to retire the jerseys of former stars Matt Schaub and D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

Ferguson started a school record 49 games on the offensive line during his time at Virginia, and currently plays for the Jets.

Schaub now quarterbacks the Texans, and is the all-time leader in program history in passing yards and touchdown passes.

The duo played a couple years together at Virginia, and they say having their jerseys retired on the same day makes the moment even more special.

"D'Brick and I, we shared two years together of him being my left tackle," says Schaub. "We had a common bond. We had a good relationship, and went to battle together for a couple of years. To share in that, and to know where he is today, and the type of guy he is, it's exciting. It's fun to have that happen."

Ferguson says, "We've played together. We've played against each other. We've been in the Pro Bowl together. We've shared a lot of stories together, and it's just great to have him and his family here. I just feel a lot of love today, and I'm really excited about that."

Ferguson says having his jersey retired at Scott Stadium is a special moment.

"This is a very humbling experience, and a once in a lifetime type of event," says Ferguson. "I was so happy to have my friends and family and all of UVA show me love. I was honored to be here."

"It's a complete honor," adds Schaub. "To come back here to Charlottesville. The university was so great place to be for five years, and to come back and have this honor bestowed on me, and share it with my family and friends, it's awesome."
