Albemarle Police Investigate Robbery at Bank of America Drop Box
Albemarle County police are investigating a robbery that occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday, at the Bank of America on Putt Putt Lane near Rio Road.
Now, those who live in the Albemarle County neighborhood are reacting to a robber that is on the loose.
Police say an employee from a nearby business was depositing money into the bank's evening drop box when a man dressed in all black clothes and a ski mask rushed the car, grabbed the bag of cash, and made off on foot toward Rio Road.
Police can't say how much money was stolen at this point because the investigation is ongoing. Investigators also say the person who was robbed will be OK.
That Bank of America location is a where Albemarle resident, Marta Keane, said she used to never think twice about being safe. She added, "That's scary to think that that's happening here especially because this area always seems so safe and I'm really surprised by it."
Hank Lee lives in Arden Place, which is just down the road from the bank. He finds the way the robbery happened to be very odd. Lee said, "It sounds pretty weird, a little town like this happening right at the bank."
Both Lee and Keane expressed fear for the safety of surrounding businesses like Putt Putt Golf that bring in a good deal of foot traffic.
Lee says he hopes police will catch the robber, but this robbery won't change his day to day schedule.
Keane said the robbery will make her more alert of her surroundings. "It makes me more aware to not come late at night, which I would've normally not given any thought to."
Officers are still looking for leads on a suspect. If you have any information that can help police, call Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
