Employees and students at Piedmont Virginia Community College will soon have access to affordable childcare.
PVCC and the Piedmont Family YMCA formally signed the agreement Friday morning. The YMCA will provide discounted pre-school care and after-hours childcare for PVCC employees and teachers.
The childcare will be available at the renovated Jefferson School on 4th Street in Charlottesville.
PVCC President Frank Friedman said, "Our mission is to make college available to everyone and break down barriers that prevent people from getting an education. Childcare can be that kind of barrier."
Dennis Blank of the Piedmont YMCA said, "There is very little infant childcare in Charlottesville, so we will be taking kids from 6 weeks to 6 years of age"
The YMCA will open its doors Monday, December 3 at the Jefferson School City Center.
