An Albemarle County principal who inspired a student to become a teacher now has a new colleague.
Years ago, Katie McFarland sat in Kimberly Cousin's third grade class at Woodbrook Elementary. After years of mentoring and staying close, the friends are now co-workers.
Cousins is the principal at Meriweather Lewis Elementary School and Friday was McFarland's first day as a kindergarten teacher.
McFarland said, "We started a really good relationship at a young age of being able to ask questions and started that really good bond between teachers and students, so when I came into the career I was able to talk to her."
"Because of that relationship she was able to do her student teaching in my school and we were able to stay connected and helped her network with other teachers within the Albemarle County public school system," Cousins said.
Cousins hired McFarland at the first opportunity and open position she had.
