Charlottesville ASG Selected for National Giving Library

Posted: Updated:

A group in Charlottesville is one of only two community-based AIDS service organizations invited to take part in the National Giving Library.

The AIDS/HIV Services Group (ASG) in Charlottesville has been selected to take part in the Giving Library initiative.  This online video archive is set up to provide an innovative way to connect nonprofits to donors.

ASG Executive Director Peter DeMartini said, "There are always restraints with funding, more and more it seems like were being asked to do so much more with so much less as far as resources go.  So having access to more resources is really important."

The initiative is funded by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, which has an endowment of over $600 million.

Press Release

AIDS/HIV Services Group (ASG) is proud to announce its participation in the Giving Library initiative funded by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. ASG is 1 of only 2 community based AIDS Service Organizations invited to participate in the Giving Library. The Laura and John Arnold Foundation strives to produce substantial, widespread and lasting changes to society that will maximize opportunity and minimize injustice. The Giving Library is an online video archive that provides philanthropists with an innovative way to enhance their charitable giving. The Giving Library will increase the national visibility of ASG, allow philanthropists to deeply explore the many services ASG provides, and provide an opportunity for ASG to learn about peer organizations across the country.

Founded in 2008, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation has an endowment of over $600 million. The foundation donated over $40 million in 2011. The goal of the Giving Library is to help donors "give smart." The Giving Library features videos that donors can use study, compare, and engage with over two hundred nonprofit organizations across the country. Other notable Giving Library participants include LIVESTRONG, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Innocence Project, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The Giving Library features a Connection Center that allows in-depth, confidential one-on-one communication between potential donors and nonprofits. The Connection Center aims to increase donor confidence while simultaneously creating strong relationships between the nonprofits and the donors who support them. Donors from across the country now have the ability to more deeply explore the many services ASG provides.

Participation in the Giving Library benefits community based nonprofits like ASG by increasing visibility and providing an opportunity to learn about peer organizations across the country.  For ASG, comparing methods of retaining clients in care, improving behavioral health outcomes, and providing effective social support is key to halting the epidemic. The Giving Library identifies area of need and builds relationships to address that need long-term.
