After two years of talking about a network of bike routes in Waynesboro, the city is one step closer. Waynesboro's Planning Commission voted Tuesday night to recommend adding bike lanes to the comprehensive plan.
The idea is to connect downtown, parks, and schools with a series of bike routes. Also in the plan are 'share the road markers' for narrower streets. The city is hoping to encourage more cyclists.
Waynesboro City Planner Michael Barnes said, "In this town we have a lot of people who already ride bikes. It will provide a safer place for them to ride. But other folks who may not have felt safe to ride before, it'll hopefully increase their level of comfort and safety."
If Waynesboro council adopts the bike plan cyclists could see bike lanes this year.
