Register for the Charlottesville Citizen's Police Academy

Posted: Updated:

Charlottesville police want you to be part of a Citizen's Police Academy.  The program is intended to educate people about the operations of the department.

They'll also cover hot topics including gangs, crisis negotiations and the use of force.  With the academy about to get underway this week, registration is required before the first session Thursday night.

"The biggest goal here is the education," Sgt. S.P. Knick with the Charlottesville Police Department said.  "We're trying to provide the community, the citizens that either live or work here in the city of Charlottesville the opportunity to get a better understanding of what goes on in the police department."

The 10-week long academy meets from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays.  It starts on August 23 and runs through October 25 at CitySpace just off the downtown mall.

To register and for more information, contact Sgt. Knick at 434-566-1430 or at knicksp@charlottesville.org.
