A homeless man is facing an attempted murder charge, following an incident along Charlottesville's downtown mall.
Police say 23-year-old Samuel Erik Wheless is also facing charges of sexual battery and brandishing a firearm, among others. He is originally from Laurel, Maryland.
About 8:15 Monday night, a female victim said Wheless inappropriately touched her. The victim's friend confronted Wheless and police say Wheless pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.
Wheless did not have bond set, and is in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
