The Virginia Tech football team had its first open scrimmage Saturday afternoon.
All three of Tech's quarterback's threw touchdown passes.
Hokie running backs rushed for 174 yards.
Freshman J.C. Coleman had 54 of them, 52 coming on one long run.
Projected starter Michael Holmes carried it three times for 21 yards.
Most of Tech's yardage came against second and third team defenses, but head coach Frank Beamer liked what he saw.
"I thought it was one of the more productive offensive days for a first scrimmage we've ever had," said Beamer. "I think that gives us something to build on. Defensively, we'll see what happened and learn from it. I know we can get those things corrected."
Tech's second and final open scrimmage of fall camp is Thursday night from 4:00-6:15.
