The UVA football team received a commitment from the most highly touted recruit of the Mike London era Tuesday.
London continues to do well in the talent-laden 757 area code as Bayside High School running back Taquan Mizzell verbally committed to the Cavalier class of 2013Tuesday afternoon in Virginia Beach.
Mizzell chose Virginia over offers from more than 20 schools, including his other finalists West Virginia and North Carolina.
The senior is a 5'10", 183-pound running back who's rated a five-star prospect by Rivals. He is Virginia's first five-star recruit since offensive lineman Eugene Monroe eight years ago. Mizzell is considered one of the top 30 prep running backs in the country in the class of 2013.
Mizzell rushed for 1,098 yards and 23 touchdowns last year despite suffering a sprained ankle in the third week of the season and never being fully healthy the rest of the year.
UVa already has three Bayside HS players on its rosters: sophomore cornerback Demetrious Nicholson, sophomore linebacker Henry Coley, and freshman wide receiver Anthony Cooper.
"Coach London is different from other head coaches," said Mizzell. "He's the type of coach that wants to make you a better person on and off the field, but for the same three reasons: education, my relationship, and it was just the best fit for me."
