A grassroots group is starting a campaign to break down racial barriers in Charlottesville.
The fe-Male Perspective, Inc. is the nonprofit behind the Breaking the Chains of Silence campaign. The group aims to identify solutions to societal issues like racism, internalized racism and classicism.
This effort is separate from both the Dialogue on Race and the Human Rights Task Force in Charlottesville.
Michelle Ba'th Bates, the founder of Breaking the Chains of Silence, said, "That particular human rights task force initiative, although meaningful for many, provides another barrier for those who might not feel comfortable coming to a government lead entity if you will to address those barriers."
Breaking the Chains of Silence is organizing events and discussions for individuals, organizations and city council to further explore these issues.
