Even though it isn't scheduled to open until September 24, that's not stopping people from throwing a party on the Jefferson Park Avenue bridge.
This Saturday, the Fry's Spring Neighborhood Association will host a ribbon-cutting and celebration party in honor of the bridge's completion.
Fry's Spring Neighborhood Association President Hardy Whitten says the construction has been a major adjustment for people who live near the bridge, and this is a way to give back to them.
"We've experienced the frustration of the bridge being closed. Susan Elliot through her neighborhood leadership institute project was planning the bike, walk, play. It just came together as a wonderful opportunity to celebrate," he said.
The bridge has been under construction since April 2011.
