Staunton High School Junior Wins Award for No Kid Hungry Project

Posted: Updated:

A Robert E. Lee High School student in Staunton won a silver medal for her project to help end childhood hunger.

Sixteen-year-old Sydney Davis was awarded a silver medal at the 2012 National Leadership Conference for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

The rising junior organized a student walk last spring to raise money for the No Kid Hungry National Outreach Project.

Davis says students at Lee paid a small fee that got them out of one of their classes. "We made it fun but it's for a good cause, so people were willing to pay the $2.  And even if it was just to get out of class, what does it matter, because it's going to help someone," said Davis.

Her walk raised $400 to go towards ending childhood hunger.
