UVA Men's Basketball Falls to AMW Team France 71-67

The UVA men's basketball team lost to AMW Team France, a collection of French professionals, 71-67 in Paris Monday in Virginia's fourth game of its European Tour.

The Cavaliers wrap up their five-game Euro trip with another game against AMW Team France on Tuesday.

The 'Hoos led for the first three quarters (21-12 after one, 36-30 at half, and 51-49 after three) Monday, but the host team, which included Kevin Seraphin of the Washington Wizards, outscored UVA 22-16 in the fourth.

Juniors Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell and freshman Mike Tobey each had 12 points in the loss. Mitchell also grabbed eleven rebounds for his second straight double-double.

Senior Jontel Evans contributed ten points, seven assists, and six rebounds for Virginia.

Sophomore Paul Jesperson scored nine points. Classmate Darion Atkins had eight points and four boards off the bench.

"We were more competitive, and that's our only chance," said UVA head coach Tony Bennett. "If they don't figure that out, then we're not a smart team. They got to have the ability to get people to play against us at a set defense and make people work, because the last couple outings, for the majority of the game, weren't even close. And even offensively, we were in such a hurry and so flustered. We were a little more patient. We moved the ball. We took care of it better, so it was a step in the right direction, and we had certainly our chances to win."
