Former Police Officer, Teacher Facing New Sex Charge

Posted: Updated:

The former Albemarle County police officer, who already faces child porn charges, is facing a new charge.  Police arrested Charles Farrell Long Jr. again over the weekend.

The new charge is aggravated sexual battery.  We're told it was a direct indictment from an Albemarle County grand jury.

Long was indicted last Monday by a grand jury for two counts of possessing child porn and two counts of producing it.

Officers arrested the 47-year-old in April after spending months investigating a sexual abuse complaint.  Arrest warrants claim Long molested two victims between 1992 and 1997.  We're told the new charge is connected to the original case.

Sgt. Darrell Byers with the Albemarle County Police Department said, "Obviously there was a lot of evidence in there and so, I mean, we had to look at a lot of evidence and that's what this charge comes from, just continuously looking at evidence and interviewing and re-interviewing people."

Long denies any wrongdoing.  In the past, he's been a fourth grade teacher in Charlottesville, an Albemarle County police officer, a reserve deputy, and a volunteer at Monticello High School.

Long's three-day trial is now scheduled to start on February 19, 2013 in Albemarle County Circuit Court.
