VSP Clears Suspicious Package Situation at VDOT Memorial - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, Sports and Weather

On Sunday, Virginia State Police responded to a suspicious package situation at the Virginia Department of Transportation Memorial at the Afton rest stop on Interstate 64.

Investigators say visitors at the rest stop spotted a trash bag with the words "Not Trash" written on it hanging from the memorial around 11:00 Sunday morning. 

According to Virginia State Police, "bomb technicians responded to the scene and through their investigation determined the package was part of a GPS geocache hunt. By 6 p.m. the memorial was cleared and re-opened to the traveling public."
