After firing back-to-back 4-under par 67s, David Passerell leads the Jefferson Cup at Birdwood Golf Course by three shots after 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament.
Passerell, a member at Meadowcreek Golf Course, trailed Phil Mahone by one stroke after Friday's first round, but he went out in 3-under par Saturday and carded a second straight 67.
Mahone, a member at Farmington Country Club, shot an even par 71 Saturday and stands at 5-under par heading into Sunday. Mahone was +2 on the front nine in his second round but got it back to even par after a 2-under back nine.
UVA sophomore Nick Tremps also shot even par 71 and stands in third place at +1.
Rupe Taylor carded a 1-over 72 Saturday, following up a 73 Friday, to sit in fourth place at 3-over heading into the final round.
Four golfers, Ty Grove (who fired a 69 Saturday), Ben Kayton, Jeff Dillman (back-to-back 73s), and Charlottesville's Sam Odi, are tied for fifth place at +4 with one round remaining.
Defending tournament champion Wes Eklund is not playing in this year's field.
