Envoy Nursing Home Abuse Charges FiledPosted: Updated:
A Staunton man who worked at an area nursing home faces charges Friday because police say he assaulted patients there. The nursing home is accused of not properly reporting the allegation.
Anthony Johnson, 47, was a nurse's aide at Envoy Nursing Home in Staunton. Police say he assaulted two patients at the home, and they didn't find out about the alleged abuse until a family member spoke up.
Police say the first incident happened in January. A 53-year-old patient at Envoy accused Johnson of groping her. Police say last spring a 43-year-old patient claims Johnson tried to force her to perform oral sex.
Johnson is charged with aggravated sexual battery and misdemeanor sexual battery. He is free on bond.
An administrator at Envoy is also facing a civil charge of failing to report the alleged incident to police when they found out about it. That person's name has not been released.
Adult Protective Services continues to investigate the actions of the nursing home.
