Charlottesville children are getting ready to graduate from the oldest preschool in Virginia, and hope the Charlottesville community will rally behind them to make their day extra special.
Youngsters at the Barrett Early Learning Center will graduate next week and move on to the next phase of their education: kindergarten. To send them off right, their teachers want to celebrate with a carnival for the kids and their families. The non-profit is hoping the community will help by donating food and prizes for their special day.
Eunice Garrett is a teacher at the Barrett Early Learning Center, and says the preschool has been a fixture in the community since 1935.
"We're here because of the kids. They need to have a firm foundation as far as education goes, at an early age, so they can go on and be successful in life," Garrett said.
About 13 kids will graduate at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall August 15th.
