A major grant awarded to the Charlottesville Free Clinic will help brighten the smiles of hundreds of central Virginia children.
Charlottesville's Future Fund is giving $23,000 to the free clinic so it can operate an upcoming dental clinic for low income patients. The first ever Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic will happen the weekend of April 19 at the Covenant Church on Rio Road.
Charlottesville Free Clinic Executive Director Erika Viccellio said "I think what this will really do too is shine the light on the need here locally, so you hear about these clinics in Wise County and rural areas, but right here in Charlottesville there's a tremendous need for more dental services."
Area dentists and well-wishers celebrated the grant with a wine tasting at the Prince Michel Wine Shop on Carter Mountain Tuesday night. The free clinic could help as many as 500 uninsured patients with the grant money.
