Students at Albemarle County
Public School's first leadership academy graduated Friday.
Virginia House of
Delegates Minority Leader David Toscano talked leadership to the 10 high school
students pioneering the academy. Albemarle
County Public Schools set up the program so students can focus on civic,
professional and personal growth in the summer.
Matt Haas, assistant
superintendent of Albemarle County Public Schools, said, "They'll go back
to their schools and develop projects, leadership projects they can involve
other students in and it will be a sustained project throughout the year that
will have an impact on their school and on their community."
School leaders hope to
expand the program next year and would like to see it triple in size.
