Thirteen middle school girls in construction hats are sweating it out on the Rivanna Trail, proving they can keep up with what is often seen as a man's job.
The girls are building a bridge over a creek on the Rivanna Trail. They are taking power tools in hand, designing, digging, cutting, and hammering the bridge themselves. They are also footing the $600 bill for the bridge.
Ayoade Blaogun, a rising eighth grade student at Village Middle School, said, "It's a lot of fun and it's community service and we're just as strong as the guys and we want people to know that."
The bridge is expected to be completed Friday. They hope to one day add plants to the area around the bridge.
