VA Offering $1.62 Million in Stormwater Grants

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation is making $1.62 million available for the development of local stormwater management programs.

The department says state and federal funds will be available in grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 to cities, towns, counties and soil and water conservation districts.

The funding is in response to legislation passed in the 2012 session of the General Assembly. It calls for all Virginia counties and municipalities to create local stormwater management programs. They are expected to include more stringent water quality standards for development and redevelopment.

Preliminary applications must be postmarked by midnight Sept. 7.
