A greasy dirt-stained wall at Charlottesville's Walker Upper Elementary School has been transformed into something a little more beautiful, and the students designed it all themselves.
Chico Lorenzo, or Mr. Artist as he's known at the school, spent all summer taking the students' designs and turning them into a mural. During the school year, students came up with pictures and put them in an "idea box." Then Lorenzo brought their sketches to life, making the once dull wall worth a second look.
Former Walker student Carmen Day said, "It made it really full of life and when people walk down to go to school down these steps, they'll see something other than a blank dirty wall. [It is] just something nice to start their day."
Students will get a good look at the mural when school starts on August 22. Meanwhile, Lorenzo will continue working on other murals at Charlottesville schools. The next will be a mural at Venable Elementary.
