As a small gesture to show gratitude and appreciation for the brave men and women of the military who serve(d) our country, the Albemarle County Parks and Recreation department will waive entry fees into Chris Greene, Mint Springs and Walnut Creek parks for all active-duty military and their immediate family members, as well as veterans, for the remainder of the season. Albemarle County swimming beaches are open through August 21. Since County beaches are closed on days that Albemarle County Schools are closed, they will reopen the weekends of August 25-26 and September 1-3. No park user fee is collected when the beaches are closed. Active-duty military and veterans will need to show their military ID to the cashier each time they visit. There is no fee for anyone to enter Albemarle County parks after September 3rd.
In addition, fees for shelter rental at all County parks will be waived for active-duty military and their immediate family members, and also veterans through the end of the 2012 calendar year. Interested military personnel will need to present their military ID when they come into the Parks and Recreation office to reserve the shelter. The Parks and Recreation office is located on the first floor of the County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road.
Family members would need to present their government-issued ID card to take advantage of the fee waivers.
