Albemarle County police are investigating a possible arson case, after a vandal set fire to a tree on the campus of Murray Elementary School over the weekend.
A potted plant, a toy wagon, and an oak tree were involved in the weekend fire. Now police are trying to figure out what happened.
An officer on patrol noticed the strange act of vandalism around 1:45 Monday morning. Albemarle County police still aren't sure if this was an out-of-control prank or a serious threat to the school.
Sgt. Darrell Byers with Albemarle County police said, "It's probably too early in the investigation right now to say whether it was a prank or whether it was obviously intentional, and someone was trying to do some harm to the school. And so we'll be looking into those things as the investigation continues."
Police will be coordinating the arson investigation with the Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office.
