Two members of the University of Virginia Women's Field Hockey team came up short in their first game as members of Team USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Michelle Vittese and her teammate Paige Selinski traded in their UVA uniforms for the next few weeks to wear red, white and blue as they represent the United States.
USA field hockey controlled the ball for a majority of the second half but lost to Germany 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
Selinski told NBC29 Sunday before the match, "This is the moment I have been waiting for my entire life. There is going to be a big crowd and a lot of people watching, including my family that arrived today. I look forward to playing Germany and getting a win in this first match."
Team USA will continue to play in the tournament and both hope to bring a gold medal back to Charlottesville.
