Augusta County residents will have one less step when getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Augusta supervisors voted 6-0 Wednesday night to repeal the requirement for fingerprinting when obtaining a concealed weapon permit. The General Assembly repealed that section of Virginia code and Augusta County determined they could no longer require the same.
During a public hearing on the issue, one county resident said he felt like a common criminal.
"I've never committed a crime," said William Carter of Stuarts Draft. "I've had a career. I've raised a family. I have children, grandchildren and all that. Here I am being fingerprinted and a criminal wouldn't be fingerprinted for a concealed to carry permit, because he wouldn't bother to get one."
Supervisors also heard from the public about getting an ordinance to address barking dogs in residential areas of the county.
