After not being selected in the NFL Draft in April, mostly because of injury concerns, former UVA cornerback Chase Minnifield signed with the Washington Redskins as a college free agent in May.
On Monday, the Redskins released Minnifield.
He's still dealing with his recovery from microfracture surgery on his knee, an injury that kept him from playing in the Chick-fil-A Bowl for the 'Hoos New Year's Eve.
Minnifield participated in Washington's organized team activities this spring and expected to be at full strength by training camp, which starts Thursday in Ashburn.
The Redskins did announce Monday that if another team doesn't claim Minnifield off waivers, he will return to Washington's injured reserved list.
