Johnson Elementary School in Charlottesville will be starting the school year with a new principal, and at least one new program.
The school's new principal Peter Stern says he's busy preparing for school to start and excited to meet all of his new students. This year, he'll be launching a new literacy initiative to get reading levels up to speed.
"I'm really excited, we're starting a new literacy program so really trying to grow that out as well and improve our literacy instruction and build on our successes because this school has been very successful," he said.
Stern's initiative will be part of a new citywide literacy program. Click here for more information on the literacy program.
All Charlottesville City Schools will start the school year on August 22.
