Monday night Waynesboro City Council gave the green light to a church-run homeless shelter.
After several months of negotiations, councilors agreed in a 4-0 vote that the Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry (WARM) can run a rotating shelter during cold-weather months.
Last winter only one church was able to take part because of the city's zoning regulations. This amended ordinance will allow churches to operate a temporary shelter without applying for a permit.
