ORANGE, Va. (AP) - A former youth soccer coach has been found not guilty in an Orange County courtroom of charges he raped two young girls.
Jurors returned their verdict Friday in the 3-day trial of 33-year-old Steven M. Bowers Jr. of Orange.
The charges date back four to five years and involved girls who were ages 11 and 13.
The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/PrvrLm) of Fredericksburg said Bowers' attorney, Charles Bowman, pointed out discrepancies in the girls' stories during the Circuit Court trial.
Bowers was a soccer coach at Orange County High School. He also was a youth minister in Spotsylvania when he was arrested in March 2011.
He was dismissed from both positions after the girls' accusations.
