The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office says one of its deputies shot and killed a 34-year-old man after the deputy was stabbed in the neck.
The Daily News-Record (http://bit.ly/LAJnkO) of Harrisonburg reports that the deadly shooting occurred Friday night in Woodstock after police and deputies responded to a disturbance and found a man armed with a knife.
Sheriff Timothy C. Carter said Deputy Tom Frazier and a police officer attempted to subdue the man, a scuffle ensued and Frazier then shot the man.
Frazier and the officer suffered cuts during the scuffle.
The identity of the man killed in the scuffle has not released.
The Virginia State Police is investigating the incident. Frazier has been put on paid administrative leave, as is the common practice in a police-involved shooting.
