Update - August 14, 2012 (5:45 p.m.) - Police have arrested the Waynesboro man they believe is responsible for a strong armed robbery that injured a convenience store employee.
Waynesboro police say 22-year-old Anthony Charles Batton was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a home on Harding Avenue.
Police suspected Batton of having a gun, but he was unarmed and cooperated with police. Officers say Batton hit the cashier on the head with some sort of blunt object at last month's Stop In convenience store robbery.
Batton will be held at Middle River Regional Jail.

The Waynesboro Police Department is looking for Anthony Charles Batton, 22 years old, of Waynesboro for the strong armed robbery of the Stop In convenience store and malicious wounding of the cashier. Batton is 5'11", 190 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Although he did not display a firearm at the time of the robbery, the Police Department believes he has recently acquired one. Therefore, he is considered armed and dangerous.

The NBC29 newsroom received the following release regarding a Friday morning robbery at the Stop-In on East Broad Street:
The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the person in the attached photographs.
The Police Department believes this subject may have information connected to the July 20 robbery and felonious assault that occurred at the Stop In convenience store, 301 E Broad Street.

Waynesboro police are looking for a man who robbed a convenience store and assaulted an employee.
It happened at the Stop-In on East Broad Street just after 3:00 Friday morning.
Police say the robber took two packs of cigarettes and all the money in the register. Then he hit the clerk on the side of the head with some kind of weapon, possibly a wrench, wrapped in a paper bag.
Waynesboro police say the robber is a young white man wearing a white hoodie, a green bandana and horned-rim glasses.

The Police Department has developed a description of the suspect involved in the early morning robbery of the Stop In convenience store.
The suspect is described as:
18 to 25 years old
Tall 5'10" – 6'2"
170 to 210 lbs with a muscular build
Last seen wearing a white zip up hoodie with a design; black pants; black gloves
Had green bandana covering his face and wearing "Buddy Holly" glasses (also known as horned rim).
The cashier was struck on the left side of his head with a blunt object possibly a wrench that was covered with a brown paper bag. He was treated and released at Augusta Health for a laceration near his left ear.

Previous Release - July 20, 2012 9:12 AM
On Friday, July 20, 2012 at approximately 3:10 AM. The Waynesboro Police Department responded to a Robbery in progress call at Stop Inn on Broad Street (301 E. Broad St.). The attendant advised police a male subject entered the store and demanded two packs of cigarettes and all the money in the register. According to the attendant he was then struck in the head area with a wrench and the suspect fled the store. This case is currently under investigation.
